the winds are only going to continue to pick up. rain totals thus far are very impressive. 4 to 6 inches of rain along the 95 stretch. again these numbers will only we are projecting 6 to 8 inches of rain are localized spots coming close to 10 inches. just be aware of that. the ocean city camera, we were showing this earlier and just really impressive showing the atlantic coming on shore, just an assault along our coastal sections at this point. haver de grace, you will be dealing with a huge high tide as we go into late tonight, early hours of tuesday morning, be aware of that. fort deposit high tied after 11:00. annapolis, look at this, already seeing the water off the chesapeake. this is all filled up here. that's just already giving you an idea of how bad the high tide is going to get. the span of the bay bridge, again closed right now for good reason. right guys, 1:00 this was closed? bay bridge done? >> depending on if it went

above 55, i think. right? >> it's there. it's there. i'm sure this is going to be -- i don't see anything going on right here. the water level coming close to the span. we'll see if that can maybe breach the span. there's a tremendous amount of water out there. the shot downtown showing heavy bands of rain coming in. high wind warnings are in place and blizzard warnings? it's going to snow towards the west, can you believe it? two to three feet of snow. not inches. two to three feet over western maryland. this is a huge storm. we'll stay can you and give you updates. we'll show you this in a little bit. right back after this commercial break.

1 closed, shut do, june of 1972, hurricane agnes. >> wow. >> how old were you back then in >> i was minus -- no. >> he was young. >> i was about 22 back then. >> and out ourages again. still keeping an eye on that situation. 28,000 and still the most right now in baltimore county. but we will continue to keep an eye on that situation. obviously we'll see that increase with the winds picking up. let's check in with wyatt now. jamie, you mentioned agnes. it's a comparable, but really we have nothing to compare this to. if you took agnes and blended that with that perfect storm back in 1991, that convergence of storms over the north atlantic and brought that in to maryland, delaware and new jersey, that's what you'd have. this was at midnight as sandy was moving in. we will have a couple more 3d animations to show you in the next hour, but here is a look at sandy at midnight. you see that massive storm structure, driving itself right

into the mid atlantic states with the first waves of rain coming in late last evening. and now here is sandy as we speak. super storm, no doubt about that. you can see that well defined aye wall we've had strengthening th to see a strengthening hurricane as she comes north but there's warm waters here in the gulf stream off virginia. there's jet stream energy dipping south and the trough object that jet stream has captured the storm and is accelerating it. speeding the system up. it's doubled in speed in just the last three hours. it may speed up even more. we think official landfall on the center of sandy is likely to occur before 4 p.m. so we're talking another max hour and a half before sandy is ashore. she's just under 100 miles off shore but up to 30 miles an hour. she may accelerate here. you say oh, we're almost through. this thing is about to make landfall. not even close, unfortunately. sandy's going to sling shot in right around new jersey, north maryland, north delaware, and then stall out. then we'll have sandy churning

right on top of us through the next day, day and a half. we really won't begin to clear out until probably halloween. tomorrow certainly the hurricane force conditions will be done, but we will not be done with the heavy flooding. rains will not be done with damaging wind gusts. and again, just an amazing, amazing power house rainstorm in sandy. let's give you comparables. first what to expect. obviously we know it's just a recap. inland wind gusts over 60 throughout the rest of the afternoon into this evening. widespread power outages, you're already getting those. i don't know what the count is up to now, jamie. what's the last count many >> 28,800 >> and climbing by the minute. flooding rains, where we think spots could get 10 inches plus. that will rival hurricane agnes in 1972. some spots actually with irene got up to 10 inches on the eastern shore last summer. but blizzard snows from western maryland. they could be measuring snow in the feet before the end of this. and of course the airport travel delays will continue to

stack up. are there rifles? when's the last time we had one like this? we've never in recorded history had one like it. but these are the closest we can come up with. the perfect storm in 1991. that was a nor'easter, hybrid type system. it formed from hurricane grace well out at sea. it still sledded the massachusetts shore line, though. the chesapeake hurricane in 1933. that actually created the ocean city inlet. we go down to ocean city near the board walk, and go out and walk along the inlet. that wasn't there before 1933. that hurricane was a long-lived event. by all reports it churned for two or three days. similar to this storm because we'll be dealing with this for two full days. then agnes, 72. it was actually nicknamed hurricane agony for pennsylvania and north maryland, and laurel maryland got an incredible amount of rain. hurricane agony, back in '72. the perfect storm, there is a visible. a hybrid hurricane. it had that same halloween timing, if perfect storm as this one. but the perfect storm stayed

out to sea. look at this. the track of the perfect storm always kept it off shore, not just maryland but massachusetts. even with that close pass it still just destroyed so much of new england with the onshore flow and winds. this is a satellite photo of hurricane agnes, back in 1972, and you can see the broad circulation of agnes. this is when she moved well inland. was up over the great lakes. a powerful hurricane. we had tremendous flooding in places like laurel back in '72. again the nickname on this one, hurricane agony. and that's why we've given this storm so much respect. it had a similar curve backtrack as well. look at agnes, although the positioning was different. agnes actually brought in -- up in the base of it right over new york and even connecticut. this one is coming closer to our state. we are likely to get heavier rains than agnes in spots, but again even with that curved back signature, that's about the only parallel we can draw. then the '33 hurricane the

track came in up the chesapeake bay. that's the track we feared with that storm. we didn't get it but big rain, big winds. by all reports a two to three- day scenario. the rainfall totals, this is a very old graphic but i wanted to show. 10 plus inches of rain up and down the chesapeake bay, eastern and western shore. i think we'll get there with this storm. all models on this current storm whip it in over the afternoon hours, and then it will sit here and meander over south central pennsylvania. that's why we'll have impacts continuing from this storm for quite a while. current impacts. it having there at home. we have the popcorn going, i hope you still have power. if you are watching this on your mobile device. the power is out, we appreciate that. don't forget to keep it charged. use the car charger, maybe run out and charge it off the car battery. 42 now in crisfid. these are the current winds, and gusting much higher than that. the flash flood warnings continuing across the state. i want to just bring up one other graphic, or actually, mike, click me back. i want to show a couple quick

cameras here. those -- well, if we go back one to weather bug, mike. actually on the run down, if you can go back to the cameras there. yeah. it's the slide before this slide. but these are the flash flood watches in the morning. the slide above this slide should be the weather bug or any weather bug slide in the run down, if you click that we'll get the camera up. are you seeing a weather bug slide in there? >> yeah. no problem. we got a lot of slides here. we have an all-day show. a nice 12-hour nonstop show at least here. we'll be with you i'm sure through at least midnight, and all right. ocean city. we wanted to give you the cameras at home. unbelievable huge surf here and these waves are going to continue to come in in ocean city. in haver de grace, rain continues to just -- just pound the state, pound the area. 3 to 4 inches of rain so far. we'll watch the susquehanna meters closely. not just today and tomorrow but

through the week. baltimore we're getting the tremendous rain, winds are picking up. gusts of probably 30 to 40 now. as you go up into the building heights here, you'll have higher wind gusts going up at elevation. dietrich lake we're watching for the change to snow. we know it's going to happen. right here at the end we're getting a wintery mix. here we go. the first snow is coming down in western maryland. we have that confirmed on our abc2 weather bug camera. this is just outside of deep creek lake at the sky valley lodge. so we'll see how much the snow piles up here, but the entire state, from obviously ocean city, with the board walk gage, the ocean city pier being -- the back end of it being swept into the sea. and now we have the snow beginning out here in garrett county, where we think the snow will pile up several feet. how is that for an impact statewide? again, new jersey may end up with some of the highest damage because of that huge coastal surge, but between the surge here in maryland, which is still nothing to not respect, and the snows in the west, which will create power outages in garrett county, maybe allegheny county, we'll be a

welcome back to our extended coverage. certain hot spots are known for all their flooding, the city's taken some preventive measures. we'll just run down some of them for you. clipper mill at meadow mills bizmarck in mount washington. >> close enough. >> flooding. 1900 block of falls road near the streetcar museum, pig town. all right. monument street pulanski highway. east baltimore, and wntown, and north point at cane west heading towards the east point mall. kind of stay away from those

areas. the roads are closed because of concerns of flooding. >> wow. that floods out a lot. karen henley, mike masco, this is right down your alley. 50 food section of the atlantic city board walk has just washed away. >> wow. >> amazing. >> you should see the pictures out of atlantic city. >> they closed 12 or so castillo knows. >> all the barrier island evacuated. but they did it 36 hours ago. >> smart move. >> yeah. just all the people that are left. >> the charles town molina peeling off like sheets of paper. >> man. off the northeast river. all right. >> go to christian schaffer >> christian schaffer at rehoboth beach. riding out the storm there. look at those waves kicking up behind you, chris. >> reporter: yeah, it's really coming in now. the storm is pretty much directly right out that way and moving north, heading towards new jersey. you heard wyatt talking about it's set up. now -- it's sped up.

it will get there sooner than we thought. the bad news is we could see some of this beach erosion kick up and even perhaps inundate the board walk. the good news is that with speeding up, it's going to get here before high tide in rehoboth. not until 8:30 tonight. that was about when they had expected the storm to hit. now it looks like it will be here well before that. we'll see how that plays out. as you look behind, you can see the big waves come in from hurricane sandy. might also see some of the damage to the downs that was down at this morning's high tide when some of the board walk was breached. i'll even show you a little bit more down here. you can take a look for yourself, where the board walk has kind of that sand cover on it. that is from where the ocean came in and left a large amount of sand and rocks on that sec of the board walk, and many others here up and down rehoboth beach. i went for a walk earlier. let me show you some video from that.

just to get a sense of what it was like downtown. mandatory evacuation still in order in delaware, and you can also see some more of the damage on the board walk there. that is the big concern here at this time. we have not seen any localized flooding, at least not in rehoboth. there has been some in bethany and due we, dewey and out of ocean city as well. and dunes have been breached when the storm surge comes in later we could get serious coastal flooding and right there in the downtown area, rehoboth beach, it could certainly happen. most of the people who live here heeded the mandatory evacuation. i saw some people walking around earlier, and spoke to them about what they're still doing here. >> i think it's spectacular. you got to still respect it. you have to really respect it. >> yeah. you really got to respect it. especially when you look back here and see just how big these waves are. it's really unprecedented, to see 20 foot waves out here in the ocean behind me at rehoboth

all right. i want to show you individual 83 right into the abc2 news room. this is the u.s. coast guard. it's just rescued 14 crew members from the rafts after they abandoned the h.m.s. bounty. 16 people were on this ship at this time. look at this video we're just getting in here. we can take it full and see the coast guard rescuing the incredible, incredible rescue here. you can see them in the water right there, trying to rescue these men, and put them on the rafts here. and again, this is just outside
